뭘 말해야 하지..?? 아이엘츠 시험이든 일반 회화 상황이든 뭐라고 애기는 하고 싶은데 표현은 딸리고 답답하기만 하다. 주제별 표현을 알고 있다면 이런 상황에서 상당히 도움이 된다. 이번 에는 Physical Appereance 즉 외모에 대해 표현하는 법을 알아보자.

• to bear a striking resemblance: to look very similar to

My friend bears a striking resemblance to PSY.

• cropped hair: very short hair

He used to have cropped hair

• disheveled hair: untidy hair

He was walking around the town with disheveled hair

• to dress up to the nines: to dress very smartly or glamorously

Look at her! She dresses up to  the nines.

• fair hair: light-coloured hair

He has blue eyes and fair hair

• to be fair-skinned: light skinned

I envy you! You are fair-skinned and have cropped hair

• to get done up: to dress smartly

I tried to get done up because it may impress her.

• to be getting on a bit: to be getting old

I can’t do it anymore because I’m getting on a bit

• to go grey: to have hair that is turning grey

My hair went grey. My hair is going grey.  My hair will go grey soon.

• to be good looking: to be attractive

She is good looking and gorgeous

• to grow old gracefully: to act in a way that embraces the fact you are getting older

I just recognized that she grew old gracefully.

• to be hard of hearing: to find it difficult to hear

I am suddenly hard of hearing so I have to see a doctor.

She is hard of hearing so it’s stressful for her to listen.

• in his/her 30s/40s: to be 20/30 something

In my 20s, I was gorgeous.

• scruffy: dressed untidily

He looked scruffy so I asked him to tidy himself

• to look young for your age: to look younger than you are

Hey Jane!. You look so young for your age.

• to lose one’s figure: to have a figure that has lost its toned shape

He realized that he lost his figure.

• complexion: natural skin colour and texture

He has a rosy complexion, but his sister has a pale complexion.

• make up: cosmetics

She is really into putting make up on.

• medium height: average height

He has medium height and a rosy complexion.

• middle-aged: approximately between 45-65

He is a middle-aged person so it is not comfortable to approach him

• to never have a hair out of place: perfectly styled hair

Wow James! You never have a hair out of place. You never had a hair out of place

• to be overweight: to weigh more than is regarded as healthy

You should do some diet, otherwise you will be overweight

• pointed face: the opposite of a round face  

He has medium height, a rosy complexion and pointed face

• shoulder-length hair: hair that comes down to the shoulders and no further

She has shoulder-length hair and pale complexion

• slender figure: a figure that is tall and slim

She has a slender figure. She is a gorgeous woman with a slender figure.

• slim figure: attractively thin

Wow. You have a slim figure.

• thick hair: a lot of hair

He used to have thick hair. He used to have thin hair. He used to have cropped hair.

• to wear glasses: to use spectacles

She wears glasses

• to be well-built: to be muscular

I am well-built and medium height

• to be well-turned out: to look smart

She is well-turned out but has a pal complexion.

• youthful appearance: to look young

Tom used to have a youthful appearance so many people thought of him as a junior high school student.
